Eligibility
- Open to creators aged 18 and over from any country. We especially encourage submissions from underrepresented voices in the film industry.
- Competition judges, readers, employees, and their immediate families are not eligible.
- Previous winning scripts and films are not eligible for resubmission.
Screenplay Originality and Ownership
- Submitted scripts must be original screenplays and the sole property of the applicant(s).
- Scripts must not have been previously sold or produced.
- Adapted screenplays are accepted, but clearance from copyright holders must be secured.
- Applicants are responsible for registering their screenplay.
- Unauthorized adaptations of existing material will not be accepted.
- All entrants retain complete rights to their work.
AI Film Originality and Ownership
- Film submissions must be the original work of the applicant(s) and not infringe on any copyrights.
- Applicants must own or have secured all necessary rights for all content in the film.
- Films must not contain any objectionable or offensive material, including but not limited to explicit violence, graphic sexual content, hate speech, or discriminatory content.
- Films must comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
Language
- All Screenplays must be in English.
- Film subtitles must be provided for any dialogue not in English.
Length
Scripts and films will be disqualified if they go over the accepted length stated per category.
Submission Limit
No limit on the number of screenplays or films an individual may submit.
Screenplay Format
- All screenplays must be uploaded in PDF format.
- Contact details should be included on the title page. This page will not be available to judges.
- Industry standard format required (Courier 12 pt font).
Film Policy
- Open to AI-generated and AI-enhanced short films from 2 to 10 minutes in length.
- Films can be in any genre. We encourage the submission of spec script pitches and trailers.
- Entries must be uploaded to youtube or vimeo and available for review via link.
- The use of AI tools must be clearly stated in the submission, including which aspects of the film were AI-generated.
- While AI application is the focus, human curation and editing are allowed and encouraged.
- Films must be submitted in high-definition quality (minimum 1080p).
- AI-generated content should not misrepresent real individuals or events in a way that could be deemed defamatory or misleading.
- Participants are responsible for ensuring their use of AI tools complies with the tools' terms of service.
Screenplay AI Usage Policy
While we encourage the use of AI tools for enhancing pitch materials, the core story and script must be the original work of the human author(s).
Revisions
Substitutions or new drafts are not accepted.
Deadlines and Fees
- Entries must be received by the stated deadline.
- Full payment of submission fee is required at time of submission.
- Entry fees are non-refundable.
Judging Criteria
- Scripts will be judged on concept, storyline, characters, dialogue, marketability, originality, complexity, and production value.
- Evaluation criteria for AI films includes film production quality, narrative, concept and creativity, and AI technique(s) integration.
Agreement
- By submitting to Reel Intelligence, you acknowledge and agree to these rules and conditions.
- You grant permission for your script, logline, and contact information to be shared with partners and sponsors.
- You agree to release Reel Intelligence from liability related to damages, negligence, invasion of privacy, defamation, copyright infringement, or misuse of the prize.
- Reel Intelligence reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not adhere to these rules or is deemed inappropriate for the competition.
